AFL-CIO fights local lawmakers child labor bill

A labor union is at odds with State Representative Amy Loudenbeck of Clinton over her bill to allow 16 and 17-year-olds to get a work permit without their parents signature. Wisconsin AFL-CIO Secretary Treasurer Stephanie Bloomingdale calls it a step backward for children and parents.  Bloomingdale says it removes an important safeguard for parents and seriously weakens Wisconsin’s strong child labor laws, which are in place to protect the welfare of children. Loudenbeck says the bill is intended to make life easier for homeless and unaccompanied youth.
