Whooping cough outbreak announced in Janesville school

Parents of Janesville School District students might want to check their children’s immunization records.  The Rock County Public Health Department announced in a letter to parents that Craig High School has an outbreak of pertussis.  Whooping cough, as it’s better known, is a contagious bacterial disease that attacks the respiratory tract.  The health department says exposure usually occurs after repeated indoor face-to-face contact and not typically casual hallway passing or brief periods of play outside.  Officials says students receiving the standard series of vaccinations will have better protection from the disease.  Whooping cough is especially dangerous for infants.
