Janesville School officials, and several other area districts, have opted to cancel classes today as police continue searching for a Janesville man suspected of burglarizing a local gun store. Local law enforcement is searching for 32-year-old Joseph A. Jakubowski of Janesville. They want to talk to him about the theft of more than a dozen guns Tuesday night at Armageddon Supply on West Highway 14 in Janesville, and the report of a man seen with a long barreled gun Thursday morning near Lincoln Elementary School in Janesville. Police believe Jakubowski was armed and say they received reports he previously made threats against schools and public officials. About 10 officers in tactical gear and FBI patches, along with men wearing tactical vests with “sheriff” on them were in the 700 and 800 blocks of Glen Street in Janesville around 2 p.m. Thursday which is Jakubowski’s last known address. Sheriff’s officials say a large group of officers” are assigned to the case, with Janesville police and the Rock County Sheriff’s Office conducting a joint investigation. The sheriff’s office requested assistance from the FBI; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms; and the state Division of Criminal Investigation. Jakubowski is described as 5 feet, 10 inches tall and of average build, He has green eyes and brown hair. A news conference is planned for 9:00 a.m. Friday.
