Suspect in meth production case asks bail be reduced

A 44-year-old Footville man, accused of making methamphetamine, asks for his bail to be reduced.  The court commissioner Wednesday morning denied the request after a prosecutor argued Jamie W. Shaw has an uncontrollable meth addiction, and is a huge threat to the public.  The defense argued Shaw is a longtime county resident with relatives here, and bond should be reduced from $10,000 to an affordable $2500.  The prosecution countered by saying the district attorney’s office’s experience is that meth addicts who are released go back to making meth.  Shaw faces charges including being party to manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of meth-manufacturing waste, and maintaining a drug trafficking place.  He also pleaded not guilty to the charges, and he waived his right to a preliminary hearing.
