Joseph Jakubowski held on $30,000 cash bond

The Janesville man who became the subject of a nation-wide manhunt makes his initial appearance in Rock County Court.
Court Commissioner Larry Barton read off charges of burglary, theft, and possession of burglary tools for 32-year-old Joseph Jakubowski on Monday afternoon.
At one point in the proceedings Jakubowski had an outburst telling Barton that “I’m not a slave and you can’t tell me what to do.” Barton turned off the sound to the jail court camera until Jakubowski gained his composure.
Prosecutor Rich Sullivan argued that in order to evade police Jakubowski actually constructed a fake explosive device and placed it at a Janesville gas station in an attempt to distract police while he burglarized a gun store on April 4th.
Sullivan argued that cash bond should be set at $30,000 and Jakubowski’s attorney David Hart argued for $1,500.
Barton agreed with the defense and set bail at $10,000 for each of the three counts Jakubowski is facing.
Jakubowski is accused of sending a lengthy manifesto to the president, burglarizing a gun store, setting his car on fire, and then going off the grid, leaving law enforcement on high alert.
He’s due back in court on April 25th at 2:30 p.m.
