For the thirteenth year, the City of Janesville has officially been designated as a Tree City USA community. This designation is a significant achievement and demonstrates the City’s commitment to effective urban forest management. To receive this award, a city must annually meet criteria established by the Arbor Day Foundation, including having a tree board and a tree-care ordinance. The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters.

The Janesville Urban Forest Alliance (JUFA) will hold two events to celebrate Arbor Day. On Friday, April 28 at 4 p.m., two trees will be planted north of Brunswick Lane along the Ice Age Trail. Following the tree planting, a short Arbor Day celebration will take place. On Saturday, April 29, JUFA and the Fourth Ward Neighborhood Action Team will plant trees that were potted during a 2016 Arbor Day celebration in yards of Fourth Ward residents that are interested and lost an ash tree recently due to Emerald Ash Borer. Fourth Ward residents impacted by Emerald Ash Borer can contact the City at (608) 755-3025 if they are interested in having a tree planted. Up to 75 trees will be planted during the event.

The City of Beloit, Department of Public Works will host the annual Arbor Day Ceremony on Friday April 28, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. The event will take place at Grinnell Hall Senior Citizens’ Center, 631 Bluff Street, Beloit, WI 53511. If the City experiences inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the Grinnell Hall dining room.
