A bill written by Rep. Debra Kolste (D-Janesville), designed to help patients obtain medicine in emergencies, was passed unanimously by the State Assembly on Tuesday.
Assembly Bill 125 allows pharmacists to extend prescriptions or dispense small amounts of prescription drugs when the drugs are necessary and the prescribing physician is unavailable. The bill was referred to the Senate.
“This bill rectifies a potentially serious problem and I am grateful that it has advanced,’’ said Kolste. “I am confident that the bill will be passed by the Senate soon and will become law.’’
The bill’s co-signers include numerous Senate and Assembly members from both parties.
“I appreciate my colleagues on the other side of the aisle who were willing to help get this passed,’’ Kolste said. “I hope we can get together on larger issues in the weeks ahead.
