New School District of Janesville Superintendent looks to make some changes

The School District of Janesville’s new Superintendent doesn’t officially start until July but he’s already looking to make some changes following some major retirements.
Pophal is proposing to to change the district’s administrative structure and add a special education teacher at an additional cost of between $175,000 and $180,000.
In a memo to the board of education Pophal suggests changing the director of curriculum, instruction, assessment and student services position to assistant superintendent/chief learning officer, changing the assistant director of students services to a director position, and adding a fourth program support teacher to the special education department.
Pophal says he spoke to variety of district leaders, including principals, department managers, union heads and program support teachers, before making the decision. He also spoke to outgoing retirees director of curriculum, instruction, assessment and student services Kim Ehrhardt, assistant director of student services Barb Kelly, and coordinator of students services Chris Wesling.
The Janesville Board of Education will consider the proposal when they meet at 5:30 Tuesday evening.
