Well testing recommended in Rock County

The DNR and local health officials are paying special attention to well water. Rock County Health Department, Environmental Health Director, Rick Wietersen says the most common form of contamination comes from coliform bacteria.  He says about 15% of Rock County wells test positive for this indicator of potentially serious problems.  The DNR is taking note of e-coli contamination caused by agricultural manure run-off. The DNR is even offering emergency drinking water to private well owners with positive tests. Wietersen says so far only a hand full of such concerns have been found in Rock County. He does recommend having private wells tested at lease once a year.
