A plan to better help give homeless men in Janesville a “hand up and not a hand out” is moving forward. GIFTS Men’s Shelter Board chair Matt Prestil says the plan is to renovate a building at 1025 North Washington Street to house both a sleeping shelter and resource center. Currently GIFTS utilizes a resource center and 40 different churches. Prestil says a silent fundraising campaign for the renovation has already collected more than $600 thousand of a $1.6 million goal. The public fundraising campaign themed “I Am GIFTS” is set to kick-off this Sunday.
