The Janesville School Board tackles a high number of absences among 18-year-old students.
Student Services Coordinator Chris Wesling says a proposed policy change would add more oversight.
Wesling says currently 18-year-old students can sign themselves out without parental permission. Under the change, parents would need to give their permission order for that absence to be excused. Students who are emancipated would need to get permission from a building administrator.
Data released by the school District reveals that 61.9 percent of 18-year-old students have missed more than 10 days of school while that number drops to just 30 percent for Freshmen.
