A Janesville man previously judged not competent to stand trial in the stabbing his grandfather is found competent.
Judge James Daley made the ruling Wednesday after a hearing and review of a psychiatrist’s report on 19-year-old Gavin D. Roetteger.
Roetteger is charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide in the stabbing of David Fancher a little more than a year ago.
Fancher suffered severe injuries from three stab wounds to the chest and abdomen.
Roetteger has been held and treated at Mendota Mental Health Institute in Madison since he was found not competent in June of last year.
A preliminary hearing in the case is set for June 2nd.
