Summer Food Program begins

As many as half of Janesville families with school age children have trouble affording nutritious food, judging from those qualifying for the school district’s free or reduced meal programs. School Nutrition Manager Jim Degan says when the school year ends, those children can turn to the Summer Food Program. Degan expects to serve close to 70,000 meals to children 18-years-old and under this summer. A list of locations and times can be found on the school district’s website. The program is funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
