The Janesville City Council is changing the way it evaluates the city manager. In the past, council members would offer their thoughts in several categories through an individually completed written form, which was considered public record. Now the council will meet in closed session with the city attorney and human resources director preparing a letter reflecting the council’s overall evaluation. The goal intends to condense seven reviews into one evaluation of how the city manager is meeting set goals. It is also hoped to avoid dredging up old issues that should have already been addressed. The review will also be moved from December to late March to give newly elected council members more time in working with the city manager.
