Janesville fire may have been caused by water leak

Janesville fire officials say a leaky water line, causing a short in an electrical panel, may be to blame for a fire in the 100 Block of Union Street. When firefighters arrived at the single family two story wood frame home about 11:30 Wednesday night, they found smoke coming from the eaves. Further inspection found the smoke coming from the charred area of an electrical panel in the basement, where about six-inches of water had pooled from a leaking line. Officials say no one had reportedly been in the home in ten days. The structure sustained about 30-thousand dollars damage, mostly due to smoke and the water leak.
