Rock County farmers sympathetic to plight of some northeastern counties

Truckloads of hay headed north may be a common sight in Rock County the next few weeks. U-W Extension Agriculture Agent Nick Baker says farmers in North Dakota are suffering through a severe drought, and the USDA has declared ten northeastern Wisconsin counties a primary natural disaster area due to losses from winterkill impacting the alfalfa crop. Baker says some local farmers have already talked about sending hay north. He says luckily Rock County farmers haven’t experienced a disaster like these since the drought of 1988.
