The School District of Janesville announces the hiring of Ashley Wright as the new Principal for Wilson Elementary School. Wright will begin her new position on August 14, 2017.
“We had a strong field of qualified candidates apply for the position,” said Mr. Steve Pophal, Superintendent for the School District of Janesville. “Ashley has extensive knowledge of the district and her great work at Wilson for the past several years will serve her well as she transitions into this important leadership role at the school.”
Wright has been with the district since 2010, serving as a School Counselor (2010 – 2011) and currently serves as a Student Services Specialist (2011 to present) at Wilson Elementary School. Additionally, Mrs. Wright has served the district as a Head Summer School Teacher, Community Learning Center (CLC) Teacher, Instructional Manager and Building Assistant at Wilson Elementary School. Prior to her time in Janesville, Wright worked as a clinical coordinator for Universal Health Systems.
Wright received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Lock Haven University (2007) in Psychology. She earned two Master’s Degrees, one in Counselor Education from Pennsylvania State University (2009), the second from Cardinal Stritch University in Educational Leadership (2013). Additionally, Wright is a nationally certified school counselor.
“Ashley has a successful record of building positive relationships with parents, students and staff,” added Pophal. “She has vast experience and knowledge at the elementary level and is very student focused.”
There were twenty-nine (29) applicants for the position of Wilson Elementary School Principal. Three (3) candidates were interviewed by an Interview Team composed of: Mr. Scott Garner (assistant superintendent); Ms. Kim Peerenboom, and Dr. Robert Smiley (directors); Ms. Tina Johnson (assistant director); and Ms. Kristen Moisson (principal). Two (2) candidates were recommended to and interviewed by a peer team consisting of: Mr. Scott Garner (assistant superintendent); Ms. Amy Sheridan (coordinator); Ms. Lisa Fuelleman, Ms. Britany Stoney, Ms. Katie Jones, Ms. Mary Kay Helbing, and Ms. Melissa Ireland (teachers); Ms. Mary Farrell (counselor) and Ms. Jill Niles (support staff).
Wright was approved for a one-year contract for the 2017-18 school year. The contract will begin on August 14, 2017. She will work 218.5 days and will receive a salary of $93,000.
