(Gazette Photo) The Walworth County District Attorney’s Office isn’t pressing charges against congressional candidate Paul Nehlen for a tweet showing a filled-in ballot. Taking a photo of a completed ballot and sharing the photo on social media is “technically a violation” of state law, but Assistant District Attorney Haley Johnson wrote in a January 12 letter to the Town of Delavan Police Department that the conduct did not warrant a criminal charge. Johnson wrote that it did not appear Nehlen was trying to trade his vote for compensation, which is the behavior the law was designed to address. Johnson wrote Nehlen ignorantly posted the image to draw attention to his candidacy. A prosecutor wrote in January though, Nehlen did not cooperate with police on the investigation. Johnson says Nehlen delayed the investigation by factory resetting his phone and removing the SIM card. Nehlen announced last month he will again run against Ryan in the 2018 election.
