Janesville’s new superintendent of school brings modern methods

(Gazette photo)  Curriculum and instruction under Janesville’s new superintendent of schools may be changing course. Steve Pophal tells Your Talk Show on WCLO the traditional teaching style, of sit-in-a-row of desks and listen, may no longer best prepare kids for success.  Pophal says employers are telling him they’re not as concerned with a potential employees grade point average as they are a workers ability to apply knowledge, work cooperatively, and problem solve.  He says one form of this new style of assessment could have kids demonstrating how to apply what they’ve learned in a real life situation, rather than taking a written exam.
