Rock County Public Health Department updates water quality advisories on Rock and Yahara Rivers

The Rock County Public Health Department updates a water quality advisory issued earlier this week for the Yahara and Rock Rivers.
Environmental Health Director Rick Wietersen says surface water testing indicated E. Coli bacteria levels at Traxler Park in Janesville and at Preservation Park in the town of Beloit have decreased, however the water is still a moderate health risk.
E. Coli levels on the Yahara River at Fulton and Badfish Creek continue to be at levels in excess of 1000 colony forming units per 100 milliliters of water.
The health department says that with this level of E. Coli bacteria the water may not be suitable for recreational activities that could result in water ingestion due to the risk of intestinal illness.
Other locations sampled in Rock County that were below health advisory levels for E. Coli include Lake Koshkonong and Clear Lake.
