A local drug abuse prevention organization is gaining national attention. Building a Safer Evansville Director Jennifer Braun says the group was recently honored by the National Association of State Alcohol and Drug Abuse Directors. Braun says BASE has been working to distribute drug lock boxes. The goal is to keep opioid prescription drugs out of the hands of youth. More than 250 such boxes have been doled out. Braun says other communities are exploring the program. She says she also been asked to give presentations in Wisconsin and other states. The award recognized the innovation of the program which crafted a message specifically geared toward the customers or members of the participating businesses and organizations.
