Janesville fire officials are investigating the cause of a blaze late Wednesday that destroyed a home on the south side.  Firefighters responded to the one-story ranch house in the 2200 block of Hermitage Lane about 9:00 p.m. to find flames outside of the home near a patio door at the rear of the residence.  The fire traveled up the side of the house and spread into the attic.  Fire crews had to tear open ceilings inside the home to extinguish the fire.  The blaze caused about $65 thousand in damage to the residence and displaced two residents and their dogs.
