The Janesville City Council opts to let gas station owners decide how they want to collect payment.
They did so Monday night by tabling a proposed ordinance that aimed to reduced police calls for service by forcing businesses to get money before allowing customers to pump fuel.
Chief Dave Moore says businesses could opt out if they choose but they wouldn’t be able to report gas drive-offs to police.
During a public hearing Monday night two businesses, and two citizens spoke out against the ordinance.
