The opioid crisis will take center stage at Mercyhealth Emergency Services Center in Janesville Thursday when House Speaker Paul Ryan plans to host a roundtable discussion. Ryan last month touted House passage of a bill to increase federal spending on opioid research and treatment. Some critics, however, say the Republican-led Congress has tried to cut funding for opioid treatment in Medicaid through its attempts to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. Rock County officials have said they hope to leverage their federal funding to treat opioid addiction with victims’ health coverage.
