The City of Beloit is extending an alternative to incorporation for residents in the Town of Beloit. The Beloit City County Tuesday night approved a resolution authorizing an Annexation Option for Town of Beloit Property Owners. Beloit City Manager Lori Curtis Luther says the status quo is better for regional development. A Village of Beloit would leave the city landlocked, and less able to aid in commercial and residential development to the east. Curtis Luther also suggests sharing municipal resources like police and fire would be more difficult. Finally she contends county taxpayers would suffer because the town would receive a larger share of utility aid from the Alliant Energy Riverside plant.
