In an interesting turn of events Wednesday night, the Beloit City Council is able to select a new member despite the fact that neither finalist received a majority of the votes.
Council Member Clinton Anderson says he and his colleagues interviewed a total of nine applicants.
After narrowing down the field to Beth Jacobsen and David Luebke Wednesday night the council was deadlocked in a three to three vote. At that point Luebke opted to step aside and let the position go to Jacobsen rather than leave the council with six members until the April election.
Jacobsen is a former Assistant City Manager for the City of Beloit who currently works as a Trust Officer with First National Bank and Trust in Beloit.
