The driver in a fatal crash last May on West Court Street in Janesville is finally well enough to face charges.
Janesville Police say Monday they arrested 28-year-old Leon E. Bridges of Brooklyn on suspicion of homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle, homicide by use of a vehicle with prohibited alcohol concentration, and causing injury by use of a vehicle with prohibited alcohol concentration.
Authorities say Bridges’ vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed on Court Street between Sunset Drive and Austin road around 2:30 in the afternoon on May third when it drifted off the road. Bridges over corrected and the vehicle entered the ditch and hit a tree.
Both Bridges and passenger 38-year-old Calvin Hanchett of Janesville were ejected from the vehicle. Hanchett was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another passenger was injured, and a dog that was in the vehicle had to be put down because of the extent of his injuries.
Bridges is due in court on November 30th at 8:00 a.m.
