The Rock County Sheriff’s Office says a 40-year-old Whitewater man faces a felony operating while intoxicated charge after he crashed with a 7-month-old passenger. A sheriff’s office release says Charles D. Bruenig was driving west on East County N a little before 3:00 p.m. Monday when he entered a turn lane to North Highway 26 and rear-ended a semitrailer truck. Deputies report Bruenig said he was reading a text message before crashing and he displayed signs of impairment and admitted to drinking before driving. It’s Bruenig’s third operating while intoxicated offense, but having a 7-month-old in the vehicle at the time of the crash makes the charge a felony. No injuries, and the child was turned over to his mother.
