A local community plans to spend a lot more on infrastructure improvements next year. The Evansville City Council this week approved a budget which includes $3 million in improvements for the library, $1.3 million in road repairs, and $400,000 for ash tree removal. Capital projects will consume well over $4 million next year, compared to little more than half-a-million this year. As a result, city spending will jump almost $4 million to $24.4 million, which is an increase of 19% over this year. Despite the increase, the tax rate is expected to drop slightly.
