Local authorities may never know who the owner of a decades old Cadillac pulled from the Rock River Monday is.
The Rock County Sheriff’s Office says the vehicle is so corroded it’s likely a vehicle identification number will not be found intact.
Because of the statute of limitations on crimes the four-door car will likely be disposed of without further investigation.
An of off-duty Janesville firefighter who runs a fishing-guide service found the car Monday using sonar equipment. It was found on the east side of the river, just north of the Veterans Memorial Bridge.
It’s the third time this year authorities have pulled a vehicle from the river.
