Keeping that New Year’s resolution to get fit would be a lot easier under a proposal before the Janesville City Council.

Public Works Director Paul Woodard says under the consent agenda Monday night is a resolution authorizing the borrowing of $60,000 for a new outdoor fitness court.

Woodard says if the City Council approves the funding for the project the fitness court would be constructed just north of the JTS transfer center at the corner of River and Court Streets this spring.

The 38 by 38 foot area would consist of over 30 pieces of stationary exercise equipment which can be used in thousands of ways.

The remainder of the $110,000 cost for the project would be funded by a $40,000 sponsorship from SSM Health, and a $10,000 grant from the National Fitness Campaign’s Fit Radio Grant.
