Janesville looks to extend trail system

The city of Janesville is hoping to add to a couple important stretches of its’ trail system by applying for two grants from the Department of Transportation. Associate planner Terry Nolan says the city has been successful in the past in being awarded grants for these types of projects.  One grant would be used toward connecting much of a one-mile gap in the ice Age Trail on the north side of the city between the Highway 26 overpass and the Janesville Animal Medical Center. The other grant would help pay to add to the Fischer Creek Trail on the west side of the city between West court Street and Dartmouth Drive.  The grants would pay for 80% of both projects. The city should know by May if the grants will be awarded, but likely wouldn’t begin work for another two-or-three years.
