Rock County board will not be censuring sheriff

The Rock County Board likely won’t be taking up a censure of Sheriff Robert Spoden.  Board Chair Russ Podzillni says he won’t be placing a resolution to censure the sheriff on the county board’s agenda.  Podzillni says he feels obligated to honor this week’s 4-0 vote by the Public Safety and Justice committee against censure.  A county board member’s original move to censure the sheriff followed a Janesville Police investigation of an underage drinking party attended by Sheriff Robert Spoden’s son, and the sheriff’s attempts to stall the investigation, and his advisement to witnesses not to speak to police.  A review by the state department of criminal investigation found no laws were broken.  Podzillni says he spoke to the Spoden Thursday to get his side of the story , and has also heard from residents who believe the sheriff is doing a very good job, and just acted emotionally as a parent.
