Janesville man pleads to lesser charge in stabbing death

The second of two brothers, accused in a Milton homicide, makes a plea deal.  A criminal complaint says 29-year-old Mario E. Lopez of Janesville, and 27-year-old Michael A. Lopez were involved in the November of 2015 stabbing of their mother’s long time partner Mark Marquez.  The complaint indicates the incident happened after the brothers heard Marquez had abused their mother.  Both brothers were originally charged with Party to First-Degree Intentional Homicide.  Michael Lopez has already been sentenced to four-years in prison on a lesser charge of Aiding a Felon.  Now his brother Mario has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of Second-degree Reckless Homicide by Use of a Weapon.  By pleading to the lesser charge, Lopez avoids a life prison sentence.  Sentencing is set for April 27.
