On 02-11-18 the Town of Beloit Police Department activated the First Light program at the Best Western in South Beloit, IL for a father and his 9 year old daughter that needed a warm place to
stay for the night.
First Light is an emergency lodging program in the state line area designed to assist first responders find temporary shelter for citizens that find themselves in a short term crisis. This is the 3rd activation since the First Light program went live in July 2017. Generally there is a greater need for temporary lodging during the cold winter months. The program is working towards being able to provide additional rooms in case the need arises. The program currently has 3 hotel partners in the State Line area; Ramada Inn in Janesville, Baymont Inn in Janesville, and the Best Western in South Beloit, IL. First Light is also partnered with Blackhawk Community Credit Union and Visit Beloit.
The program is still in its infancy and there are a limited number of hotel rooms available. As the program continues we are hoping to establish additional hotel and business partners.
