The Janesville Fire Department is investigating a fire at a group home. Firefighters were called to the single story residence in the 1600 block of South River Road about 10:30 Thursday night. Authorities say the building’s sprinkler system kept the fire in check, reducing the extent of the damage. Investigators say the fire appears to have started in the basement, and the cause is undetermined. Police say the eight residents and two staff safely evacuated. Officers were searching Friday morning for one resident who appears to have run off. It’s not known if he was involved in the fire.
