Beloit police say a 19-year-old, who accidentally shot himself, shouldn’t have had the gun to begin with. Lieutenant John Kaltenbrun says it appears Anthony Lowery forgot to empty the chamber when he decided to clean a semi-automatic handgun about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday. Kaltenbrun says the round hit Lowery in the leg, severing his femoral artery. He says a member of the residence who used a belt to slow the bleeding, and responding police officers who applied a tourniquet, likely saved Lowery’s life. Kaltenbrun adds, Lowery is prohibited from having a firearm because he’s currently free on bail on multiple robbery charges.
