(Gazette photo) Blackhawk Community Credit Union plans to create a “legacy center” in Janesville to honor generations of local General Motors employees.
The Janesville-based credit union announced its plans (Tuesday). The center is still in the early stages, and a location hasn’t yet been selected.
According to a news release, the center will recognize the generations of people who worked at GM’s former assembly plant on the south side, including former Fischer Body workers and employees from the autoworkers union, UAW Local 95.
The credit union’s announcement of a GM legacy center comes as the former plant is slated for demolition. Commercial Development has said it plans to begin razing all or some of the 4.8 million-square-foot plant in coming weeks.
