The Rock County District Attorney’s Office dismisses an open meeting violation complaint filed by a Janesville City Council candidate against the City Manager and council.
Jeff Navarro says it was illegal for City Manager Mark Freitag to update the council on the status of the Monterey Dam removal project during the City Manger update portion of the February 26th City Council meeting.
In a letter to Navarro, District Attorney David O’Leary says most important to his decision to dismiss the complaint was the fact that no action was taken by the City Council following Freitag’s update.
Freitag says city staff are regularly trained in open meetings and records laws, and the city will continue to ensure that it is in compliance with regulations and go above the law in providing open access to the Janesville community.
