A 23-year-old Janesville man is arrested on a number of charges after he nearly hit a police officer who was on foot while driving recklessly through the fourth ward Friday afternoon.
Janesville Police say after the officer jumped out of the way to avoid being hit, the vehicle cut down an alley and hit a van full of people. When the driver fled on foot officers deployed a K-9 who was able to help take him into custody with the aid of pepper spray.
The man, later identified as Abel Hernandez is also accused of spitting on the EMTs who later transported him to the hospital for bite from the police K-9.
Hernandez is facing charges of two counts of recklessly endangering safety, fleeing an officer, assaulting a law enforcement animal, two counts of propelling bodily fluids at EMS, OWI second offense, hit and run, open intoxicants in a motor vehicle and resisting an officer.
