The city of Janesville is looking to help the company redeveloping the old General Motors Manufacturing site. City Economic Director Gale Price wants the city to submit a grant request to the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation’s Idle Site Redevelopment program. The $500 thousand grant would pass through the city to the GM sites’s new owner. The city says it would give Commercial Development a boost as the company moves forward on what the city estimates is a more than $10 million project to demolish the former plant, clear the site, and ready it for redevelopment. The company says it has begun asbestos abatement, and demolition of the physical building could start this month.
