No impact from Beloit Turner School District referendum recount

A recount finalizes the failure of the Beloit Turner School District’s $26.8 million referendum, bringing the vote totals to 920 “yes” and 923 “no”.  One “no” vote was added during the recount, which was held at the Rock County Courthouse Wednesday.  Rock County Clerk Lisa Tollefson says the volunteer canvassers determined the intent of one voter was to cast a ballot opposing the referendum.  She said the voter had incorrectly filled in the circle in favor of the referendum and then marked it out and voted against it.  District Business Services Director Brad Boll says the “most disappointing” insight from the recount was that 40 people did not cast votes for or against the referendum, perhaps because it was the only item listed on the back of the ballot.
