Fire destroys barn near Brodhead

Brodhead fire officials are investigating the cause of a blaze at a farm in the 2900 block of Severson Road northeast of the city.  Chief Rob Scheidegger says the family was first to discover the fire a little before 2:00 a.m. Friday when they opened the door to find out why the dog was barking and could feel the heat.  Scheidegger says the first firefighters to arrive found the barn pretty much already on the ground.  He says the family was able to rescue their dairy herd.  The barn and milking operation are a total loss.  The chief says it’ll be difficult to determine the cause because of the extent of the damage.
