A Beloit couple charged with half a dozen counts of child neglect and child neglect causing great bodily harm appear in Rock County Court on a bench warrant after failing to appear for their preliminary hearings earlier this week.
Court Commissioner Stephen Meyer allowed 40-year-old Heather McCoy and 39-year-old Lakeidric McCoy to remain free on a signature bond.
Lakeidric McCoy waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday and is due back in court July 18th. Heather McCoy is due back in court on July 9th.
Eight children were placed in protective custody after police and social workers who arrived at the McCoy’s residence in March found a filthy home with rat droppings on the kitchen table, a broke-down refrigerator full of rotten food, no personal personal hygiene items or toothbrushes, and two moldy queen size mattresses pushed together for seven children to sleep. A one-year-old was found in a pack-and-play swarming with fruit flies.
