(Gazette photo) The Department of Workforce Development may have announced Daniels Foods Sentry on East Milwaukee Street in Janesville is closing on August 15th, but General Manager Ken Riley wants to clarify a new owner will be reopening the store the next day. Riley tells the Gazette Sentry will lay off all 49 employees, but he expects most will be hired by the new owner. He says, “the main thing is the jobs will be retained.” Riley declined to name the buyer but described him as a Wisconsin person “who has been in the grocery business all his life.” Sentry employees were told Friday about the changes coming. As required by state statutes, Riley sent a letter notifying the state Department of Workforce Development of the impending layoffs.
