Fire at Court Street apartment building displaces seven people

A fire late Saturday causes $40,000 in damage to a three-story apartment building in Janesville’s Courthouse Hill District and leaves seven residents displaced.
The Janesville Fire Department says a fire that broke out on the third floor of a rental property on the 800 block of East Court Street appears to have been accidental, but an investigation did not reveal an exact cause.
The fire was reported just before 10:00 Saturday night in a room on the third floor. Seven residents who live in the lower floors evacuated with no apparent injuries.
The residents weren’t able to stay in the house, and the Red Cross is assisting them.
