A herd of 80 to 100 goats may just be a silver bullet when it comes to controlling the noxious weeds growing at Alliant Energy’s property on Walters Road in the Town of Beloit.
Wisconsin Power and Light Project Manager Bob Newell says instead of spraying harsh chemicals, he’s asking the Planning Commission permission to bring a herd of rented goats on the property.
Newell says it’s the first time the company has tried using goats to control weeds, and that they cost about the same as traditional herbicides.
