he National Weather Service has changed its forecasts for the Rock River at Afton and Lake Koshkonong. Predictions call for the Lake Koshkonong gauge to rise to 12 feet by Tuesday, into what the weather service considers major flooding. A weather service web page says at 12 feet, widespread flooding can occur near the lake on Ralph Road, Vets Lane, Blackhawk Island Road and Oxbow Bend Road. Predictions for the gauge at Afton, south of Janesville, were also revised upward overnight, from a crest of 10.7 feet Wednesday to 11.7 feet. The high point is also expected to arrive Tuesday. Janesville City Operations Director John Whitcomb says crews will begin placing sandbags along the river wall at Fireman’s Park Friday morning as a precaution if the forecast isn’t revised lower.
