The Janesville Fire Department is asking resident to be considerate of neighbors when using portable wood burning campfire pits.  While open burning is prohibited in the city, the use of commercially-manufactured, portable wood-burning campfire pits is permitted under specific circumstances.  Fire Marshal Sue North reminds residents garbage, leaves, and grass can not be burned.  North also suggests if the winds are drifting smoke towards an unappreciative neighbor, it might be time to put the fire out.  Fire officials add the number of complaints about outdoor burning tend to increase this time of year.
