This fall, the City of Janesville will collect loose leaves November 5 – 15. For information on when you can expect lead collection crews to be in your neighborhood, please see the map or the address list. Dates listed are the earliest that collection crews will be in your area; however, delays may occur. If collection crews will be in your area on your trash collection day, please keep carts on the terrace or near the curb line in your driveway. Allow enough room for leaf collection crews to maneuver. Cars should remain off the street the day of pick up, as crews won’t be able to gather leaves with vehicles in the way. Crews will only be on each street once over the course of leaf collection.
Place leaves on the terrace and not in the street up until a few days before your collection day. One to two days prior to your scheduled collection day, move the leaves into the street. Please ensure that the leaves are raked away from the gutter to keep leaves from moving back to the terrace as crews come by. Avoid placing leaves near or over storm sewer intakes to prevent street flooding. Please note: residents may not rake leaves into the street gutter before October 1 or after crews have passed the street. Street sweepers will follow a day or two behind the leaf collection crews to clean up small amounts of debris left on the streets. For questions, please contact City Services at (608) 755-3110 or visit the City’s Fall Loose Leaf Collection website.
New for 2018: The City will be the utilizing two specialized leaf vacuum trucks. This equipment will collect leaves before and during the normal loose leaf collection dates as an addition to the normal fleet of collection vehicles and may pick up your leaves earlier than your scheduled day. If this occurs, City crews will be back on your normally scheduled day for loose leaf collection. The City intends to continue to grow the fleet of vacuum trucks, so it is extremely important that ONLY loose leaves are placed at the curb.
The City will collect bagged yard waste and bundled brush on the same day as your regular garbage pickup the week of November 26 – November 30. Grass, leaves, and garden debris will be collected in paper biodegradable bags (preferred), reusable containers up to 35 gallons in size, or plastic bags. Plastic bags must remain untied. Bags or containers must each weigh less than 50 pounds. Brush should be in bundles that are no larger than 4 feet in length, no more than 12 inches in diameter, and no heavier than 50 pounds. Size limits are necessary so bundles can fit into collection trucks. Please place the bags and/or bundles at the curb, a few feet from your trash cart, by 7 a.m. on the morning of your scheduled collection day.
Other Yard Waste Disposal Options:
- Use as mulch or leave grass clippings on lawn.
- Home compost or deposit at the City compost site (Janesville residents only).
- Deliver stumps, brush, branches, roots, and shrubs to demolition landfill for a fee of $5.50/cubic yard (Janesville residents) or $7.00/cubic yard (non-residents).
